Welcome to Tour Townsville
I first came to Townsville in 1994 when the Army first posted me here. By 2007, after serving for 26 years, I was ready to move on from Army life. I chose Townsville to raise my family and to make it my home. For most of the year the weather is perfect and the place has an old Australian feel and sense of community that I like. I have always had an interest in Australian history and Townsville just happens to have a very interesting story to tell. It was the gateway through its still important port that opened up this area of Australia. It has played a major role in the defense of Australia and still does to this day. It was home to some of Australia’s great pioneers of the top end and was a seasonal meeting place for the First Australians for thousands of years. It is city with great amenities and public areas, and a lifestyle second to none, with some of the best views anywhere in Australia. The area has a bright future with so many opportunities over the coming years. My family history dates back to Samuel Dean who was sent here from England as 15 year old convict. Samuel after serving his time married the daughter of a convict Kathrine Kinsella. The family tree is littered with links to Australia’s colonial history.
I started doing the one half day tour at the end of 2013. I saw the opportunity to develop tours based on Townsville’s history and scenic sights and I wanted a job that was going to be a bit easier on the body, as I was starting to clock up some kilometers on the frame. I have a passion for Australia in general and since Townsville is a very Australian place I guess that passion comes through. They tell me I am a natural bullshit artist (I mean story teller) and so using some of the ways the Army had taught me to get the message across I have developed a number of tours that aim to tell you about the story of Townsville. The tours just happen to include the best scenic sights and good food. Many tell me they enjoy the experience and the day out discovering Townsville. I do get a sense of satisfaction in facilitating a day where people have enjoyed themselves. I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and often enjoy myself more than they do. I am not sure if that should be the case but I have met some very decent and interesting people.
Best wishes and I hope you enjoy your stay in Townsville.
